We are responsible not just for our own hearing health, but for that of everyone in the venue: stage performers, staff, and audience. We have to rise to the challenge, because we are the only ones that can implement safe listening in an artistic way, balancing the loudness budget with the dramaturgic and emotional needs of a performance. The alternative are automated limiters that do not care about art, or, depending on jurisdiction and even less desirable, immediate cancellation of the concert by the authorities. (English)
